Quicktime mpeg2 free download - Apple QuickTime, QuickTime Converter, QuickTime MOV Files Converter, and many more programs.
However, on my external drive I seem to have two QuickTimeMPEG2.dmg files. One is the older version where as the other is the latest.Actually, there are now 3 versions -- one for QT v6.3 and earlier, one for QT v6.4 through v7.5, and the latest for QT v7.6.
May someone please provide me the SHA1 digest of the latest disk image so I install the correct one the first time through?
Checksum verifications are normally performed during the process of downloading/opening the DMG file. Older versions of the component are contained in separate folders designated as 'For QuickTime 6.3' and 'For QuickTime 6.4 and later & Intel Macs' respectively while the latest DMG file only contains a single PKG file designated 'QuickTimeMPEG2.pkg' and identified by the Finder as version 'QuickTimeMPEG2 7.6' in the 'Info' window. Use the version which is compatible with your current installed version of QT on the boot system in use. Download the latest version if needed from your Apple Store account area.

But it isrequired for VOB files and transport streams, because they are MPEG-2files.
For DivX playback and editing, you have to install DivX (www.divx.com/divx/mac).
You can also install another codec like 3ivx (www.3ivx.com)or XviD(n.ethz.ch/student/naegelic),but only with DivX 6.5 and later (or DivX 5.2.1) you canencode DivX files with MP3audio.

A specialdemuxing option is available for Final Cut Pro 4/5: this applicationdoes not work well with M2V files, but MPEG Streamclip can write aspecial 'unscaled' M2V file that preserves full video quality whenimported into Final Cut Pro.
MPEG Streamclip can handle files and streams larger than 4 GB, split inany number of segments, or with multiple audio tracks, and can alsooptionally handle timecode breaks. It is compatible with MPEG-1 andMPEG-2 video, MPEG layer 1/2 (MP1/MP2) audio, AC3/A52 audio, and PCMaudio.

For Mac users who have homemade video footage of weddings, christenings, holidays onto DVD disc or purchase some DVD movies from Target, Best Buy and Amazon, etc, do some fantastic editing such as inserting titles, adding effects or create a full soundtrack with Apple's free but powerful video editing App - iMovie would be as simple as drag and drop.
However, the big point here is that the video formats supported by iMovie are limited to MPEG-4(MP4, M4V), QuickTime Movie(*.mov), MPEG-2, AVCHD, DV & HDV, therefore, it seems that you can't direct import DVD to iMovie for editing. Below article will show you how to import DVD to iMovie in different situations.

Import Homemade DVD to iMovie 09
For homemade DVD with no copy & region code protection, you can directly import them into iMovie 09 or its previous version by using the disk utility and get a new image of the DVD. Once done, launch iMovie and open the disk image, iMovie will detect the disk image as video coming from a camera and you will then able to import the video.
Import Homemade DVD to iMovie 11
Most people who have update to iMovie 11 find that using Disk Utility to copy DVD does not work with iMovie 11 or later versions. If you are unwilling to buy a third-party app to convert DVD to iMovie 11 importable file formats, you can have a try at the following 2 alternative solutions:
Solution 1: Download the free open-source video transcoder tool - Handbrake for Mac to rip non-commercial DVD to MP4, then you will have no problem to import that video into iMovie 11.
Solution 2: Use free MPEG Streamclip for Mac to convert the VOB files in the TS-Folder of the DVD back to DV which iMovie 11 is designed to handle. Besides that, you will also need
Tips: If you are running Lion or later:
The installer of the MPEG-2 Playback Component may refuse to install the component in Lion. Apple states the component is unnecessary in Lion onwards, however MPEG Streamclip still needs it.
To install the component in Lion, please download MPEG Streamclip 1.9.3b7 beta above; inside the disk image you will find the Utility MPEG2 Component Lion: use it to install the MPEG-2 Playback Component in Lion. The original installer's disk image (QuickTimeMPEG2.dmg) is required.
The current versions of MPEG Streamclip cannot take advantage of the built-in MPEG-2 functionality of Lion. For MPEG-2 files you still need to install the QuickTime MPEG-2 Playback Component, which is not preinstalled in Lion. (The same applies to Mountain Lion and Mavericks even though they have it preinstalled.) You don't have to install QuickTime 7.
Import Commercial DVD to iMovie 09/11
For adding commercial DVD with copy & region code protection to iMovie, you will first need to break the protection and then convert DVD to iMovie 09/11 accepted editing formats listed above. It would be a waste of time and energy to find one program to bypass the protection and another program to perform the conversion process. Here, a combo function called Pavtube DVDAid for Mac (best dvd ripper), which helps to remove DVD copy & region protection without any third-party plug-in, in addition, you can easily rip DVD to iMovie supported formats listed above. If you are perusing a high performance and high quality of post production workflow of DVD video with iMovie, you can choose to output iMovie best editing codec - Apple Intermediate Codec.
Set DVD subtitles in ripping process
